Critical Warning / Action Required
CRITICAL BOTTLENECK: The 'Legalization' and 'Translation' phase. Spanish consulates require documents to be translated by a 'Traductor Jurado' (Sworn Translator). Additionally, if you are an Undergrad applicant, you must go through 'UNEDasiss' accreditation, which acts as the Spanish entrance exam system.
1. University Application & UNEDasiss (Undergrad Only)
Month 1-3 (Nov - Feb)
Duration: 8-12 Weeks
Status: Preparation
- Master's Applicants: Apply directly to university portals (Distrito Único for public unis). Deadlines vary by region (Andalusia, Madrid, Catalonia have different dates).
- Bachelor's Applicants: Register on 'UNEDasiss'. This is MANDATORY. You may need to take 'PCE' (Specific Competency Skills) exams in Pakistan or online if your grades aren't high enough.
- Check Language Requirements: Spanish taught programs need DELE B2. English programs usually need IELTS 6.0+.

2. Document Legalization (The 'Cadena')
Month 4-5 (March - May)
Duration: 6-10 Weeks
Status: Bureaucracy
- Step 1: IBCC/HEC Attestation of degrees.
- Step 2: MOFA Attestation.
- Step 3: Spanish Embassy Attestation (Islamabad). You generally need an appointment for this. Fees are around PKR 2,000 - 3,000 per page.
- Step 4: Sworn Translation. Once legalized, send scans to a 'Traductor Jurado' in Spain to translate them into Spanish. This is required for the visa.
Critical Points:
- common mistake: Do not use a normal Pakistani translator. The Consulate only accepts translations from the official 'List of Sworn Translators' approved by the Spanish Ministry.
3. Admission & Homologation Check
Month 6 (May/June)
Duration: 4 Weeks
Status: University Phase
- Receive 'Carta de Admisión' (Admission Letter).
- Pay the tuition fee (at least the reservation fee, often €500-€1,000, or full first year for private schools).
- Check if your university requires 'Homologación' (Official Ministry recognition of your degree). If yes, start this immediately at the Embassy; it takes months.
Critical Points:
- private vs public: Private universities are faster and often waive the strict 'Homologación' requirement for Master's admission.
4. Visa Appointment & Medical
Month 7 (June/July)
Duration: 2-4 Weeks
Status: Pre-Visa
- Book Visa Appointment via BLS International (Islamabad) or directly with Consulate (Karachi) depending on current contractor.
- Jurisdiction: Punjab/KPK/AJK -> Islamabad. Sindh/Balochistan -> Karachi.
- Get a Medical Certificate from a recognized doctor stating you are free of contagious diseases (International Health Regulations 2005).
- Get Police Character Certificate (and legalize/translate it).
Critical Points:
- medical certificate: Must contain specific wording about 'no contagious diseases'. Templates are usually available on the consulate website.
5. Financial Proof (IPREM)
Month 7-8 (July)
Duration: 1 Week
Status: Financials
- Spain uses the 'IPREM' index. You need 100% IPREM per month (~€600).
- Total required: approx €7,200 - €8,000 in a bank account.
- Source of Funds: Spain is very strict on 'Source'. If your father sponsors you, provide his tax returns (FBR) and 6 months of bank statements to prove the money is white.

- sponsorship letter: Must be notarized.
6. Visa Submission & Interview
Month 8-9 (August)
Duration: 4-8 Weeks
Status: Decision
- Submit file in person.
- Interview: Expect questions in English (or Spanish if your course is in Spanish). They ask about your study plan and return intent.
- Wait for approval. If approved, you get a 90-day 'Student Visa' on your passport.
Critical Points:
- processing time: Can take 15 to 60 days. Apply at least 5 weeks before flight.
7. Arrival & TIE Card
Month 9-10 (Sept/Oct)
Duration: First 30 Days
Status: Residency
- Arrive in Spain.
- Getting the 'Padron' (City Hall Registration): You must register your address at the local 'Ayuntamiento'.
- Apply for TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero): You have 30 days to visit the Police Station (Extranjería) to give fingerprints for your residency card.
- Pick up TIE card after 30-40 days.
